BIBA's Past General Meetings Biba Team |
EFFECTIVE MANAGEMENT"
BIBA’s Third Phase: 2003-2005 - As BIBA enters its 10th year of operation, the need for a New Direction emerges. The first phase of BIBA’s activities, that is the first seven years (1994-2001), was mainly about Marketing & Promotion”. The second phase, the last two years (2001-2003) was dominated by “Prospects for the Economy and Social Responsibilities”.
For the third phase (2003-2005), BIBA would like to concentrate on Management issues. The UK economy offers ample opportunities for growth with its vast investment in education and professional infrastructure. There is a general feeling that, for BIBA members to gain the extra efficiency, they ought to improve their management styles as well as marketing.
Perhaps this could be considered a further sign of membership confidence and maturity.
Hence BIBA has organised a series of Q&A seminars on Effective Management, for 2003 beginning with its 110th business meeting which was on Thursday 30th October 2003 and is now followed by the next scheduled meeting of Thursday 27th November 2003.
Effective Management
The 110th Business Meeting, Thursday, 30th October 2003.

1st British-Iranian Police Ball, 2006 SG |
Following our 2004 successful seminar on “Career Opportunities in the Metropolitan Police Services”, BIBA is proud to support the Metropolitan Police Services (MPS) in fostering closer ties with the British-Iranian & Farsi-speaking community. The British-Iranian Police Ball will serve as another awareness and recruitment drive for MPS. During the event by supporting and fundraising for the Police Benevolent Fund, it would provide a further opportunity to show our appreciation for the Metropolitan Police Services. There are a number of charities, which provide support to serving and retired officers of the Metropolitan Police Services, their widows, widowers, and orphans. What is BIBA?
The British Iranian Business Association (BIBA) was founded in 1994 in recognition of a widely acknowledged need to provide a forum for British-Iranian Business and professional men and women living in the UK to meet and create business contacts and opportunities. The formula for our growth and success was rather simple. It began with holding meetings that focused on marketing strategies and business development. In total, we have organised 122 business meetings. BIBA's journal, British Iranian Business News (BIBN) has a readership of 20,000.

Iran Nobel winner gets hero's welcome BBC Website |
Human rights groups and non-governmental organisations, swelled by crowds of local people, gathered at the city airport to give her a hero's welcome.
The human rights activist, who has already used her elevated profile to urge the Iranian Government to allow greater freedom of speech, called for political prisoners to be released as she stepped off the plane.
Iran's President Mohammad Khatami has urged Mrs Ebadi, the country's first Nobel Peace Prize winner, to use her award for the good of Iran and world peace.
He has also played down the significance of the award, saying it was "not very important" and was awarded on the basis of "totally political criteria".
Noted for promoting the rights of women and children by seeking changes in Iran's divorce and inheritance laws, she is the first Muslim woman to be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.
Celebrations
The area surrounding Tehran's Mehrabad airport was brought to a standstill by traffic jams.

British Iranians lead the way... |
“The toughest and most challenging year”
Chancellor Gordon Brown, presenting his Pre-Budget reportin December 2005. Low GDP growth, at 1.7%, had negative effects on the economy. However, the following good news should motivate and spur us into the New Year with positive zeal. Statistics published by the BBC in 2005 show that the British-Iranian community in the UK now has the greatest proportion of high-earners of all immigrant groups but one.
The success of the British- Iranian community is all the more impressive when one takes a closer look at the statistics. Almost 25% of British-Iranians settled in the UK are high earners (defined as people earning more than £750 per week). A larger proportion of British-Iranians are high earners than of Canadians, Australians, Americans, Indians, Spaniards, Germans, French, Polish, Chinese, or Turks living in the UK – to name a few of the 45 other communities listed in the report.
(The largest immigrant group were the British- Indians, with a population of 466,416; the smallest group was those 1,236 British residents born in Luxembourg.)
In fact, the figure for British-Iranians is well above the national average for the British Isles: 6.98% of the combined population of the UK and the Republic of Ireland are classed as high earners.
Why is this surprising?
Background facts Despite the following obstacles, British- Iranians almost came out on top. ?? Apart from British-Iranians, the top 20 immigrant communities with the highest earners either have Anglo-Saxon cultures or historical links with the Commonwealth or they are European.
Iran has never been a colony of Britain, nor of any other European country. Arguably, Iranian cultural ties with Britain have not been as deep as with France.
Persian is not a language that shares the Latin alphabet. The language barrier is more significant for Iranians than for many other immigrant groups. The emigration of Iranians to Britain, to form a community of the sort of size we see today, is a relatively recent phenomenon. The success story is a recent one, compared with other communities who have had some sort of base in Britain for 50 years or more.
